Cash For Clunkers Pros and Cons

Cars

I've done some research across the Internet and gathered a list of Pros and Cons regarding the "Cash For Clunkers" program. I made a list for the individual who's considering buying a car through the program, and also a list for the "Collective Soul", for us to consider the overall impact in the universe, as described in this article.

So far the Pros and Cons add up to this: Individual: 4-Pro, 6-Con. Collective Soul: 6-Pro, 12-Con.

INDIVIDUAL:

Pros

1. $ 4,500 + other incentives you may be able to save a lot of money on a new car purchase, if you push for more incentives just just the $ 4,500.

2. Less Gas. You could save a lot of money at the pump.

3. Cut down on repair costs.

4. Environment – your driving will cause less pollution.

Cons

1. Insurance – it usually costs more to insure a new car.

2. New Debt – it is wise to go into more debt in your financial situation?

3. Wasted parts – your old car will be destroyed. It's questionable whether or not some of the parts will be recycled.

4. Value added to your old clunker. The used car market may heat up due to decreased supply. It's possible that your used car may be worth more than the voucher after the trickle-down of this Cash for Clunkers program.

5. More gas. You might be inclined to drive more knowing that your car gets better gas mileage.

6. Comfort Zone. You KNOW your old car. And you know what repairs you've done to it and what's likely to go wrong.

FOR THE COLLECTIVE SOUL:

Pros

1. Increases sales at auto dealers.

2. Surge in new-car sales to consumers who would not otherwise purchase at this time. For the upper and middle income people with good enough credit to get a car loan, gives them a down payment.

3. Old vehicles are typically less fuel-efficient than their modern counterparts, so removing them from the road and replacing them with newer cars would likely decrease individual owners' and the nation's consumption of oil.

4. Old vehicles typically do not run as clean as new vehicles, so removing and replacing them on our roads would likely decrease vehicle exhaust emissions, lessening the impact on the environment.

5. Old vehicles were not held to the same crash and safety standards as new cars are held to and tend to be less safe in an accident. Replacing them with newer vehicles could lead to fewer injuries and fatalities in automobile accidents.

6. Automakers are struggling right now, especially domestic automakers. Providing a financial incentive to buy new cars would likely lead to increased car sales, which would generate revenue for the automakers and help them weather the economic downturn, while stimulating the economy at the same time.

Cons

1. Artificial, unsustainable boom in auto sales.

2. Crushing those older running autos makes those parts and vehicles harder to get, and consequentially more expensive.

3. Many companies build parts and upgrades for older vehicles. A reduced supply of older vehicles would adversely affect their sales.

4. The automotive restoration and customization industry relies on old cars as the basis of their products. A reduced supply of older vehicles would adversely affect their sales.

5. For lower income people, makes it harder to find and maintain an older vehicle.

6. Convincing low income people, those who drive "clunkers", to go out and finance a new car when we are still in the mid of the consequences of easy credit in the housing market.

7. Drop in vehicle donations to charities. Some charities that rely on vehicle donations for funding say they're receiving fewer cars and trucks, because donors change their minds and decide to trade the vehicles in on the Cash for Clunkers program.

8. Some older vehicles actually get better gas mileage than some newer ones. Replacing them would then negate any benefit to the environment or the US 'oil consumption problem.

9. Encouraging consumers to scrap working vehicles could shorten the lives of cars and encourage the production of new cars, which would have a larger adverse impact on the environment that keeping the older car.

10. This proposal would not necessitate benefit the automakers that are in the worst financial shape, as there is no guarantee that consumers would use their incentive to purchase a vehicle from one of those manufacturers and not another company.

11. The program is not restricted to AMERICANS, and not restricted to AMERICAN made vehicles, but it is coming from AMERICAN taxpayer money.

12. It is costing more than $ 4,500 per trade-in. It is costing approximately $ 6,000 per vehicle, when factoring in the cost of the extra government staffing, office space rent, equipment, employees, web development, printing of forms, etc.

How Can I Display My Antique Diecast Model Cars at Home?

Cars

Collections are a great pastime; However, if you've been at it for awhile, you'll start to realize that you lose the space in your home to boxes and boxes of antique collectibles. If you've found that you have no space for your collection it may be time to find a nice way to display it in your home. Below you will find a few great ideas that can take your collection of diecast model cars from a boxed nuisance to a fun treasure for everyone to see.

Dust Be Gone

One of the most common problems that collectors have when trying to display their Diecast Model Cars is the collection of dust. Dust easily gets in and on their collectibles making displaying them more of a chore than a fun experience. If this is a problem for you, there are solutions that will easily remedy the problem.

Display Cases

There are some places you can go and purchase display cases that are designed for collectible toys. You can often see these displays in toy stores in the Barbie section where the most popular items are. Ordering these display cases allows you to put your collection where you'd like. The cases are clear all around making it visible to all however it is completely enclosed blocking off that dust.

Glass Cases with Lighting

Another great way to display your Diecast Model Cars in your home is to invest in a glass case. They are sold in different sizes and some of them are equipped with lighting that makes it easier to see your toys.

China Cabinets

Your grandma's china cabinet idea for displaying her fine china is another great solution that collectors of Diecast Model Cars can try. If you have a decent china cabinet you can place your toys on the shelves. Since the cabinet doors are glass, they can make a great focal point in your living or dining room area.

Book Shelves

If you do not mind the dust too much, there is always the option to display your Diecast Model Cars on a bookshelf. There are plenty of shelving arrangements now that have different sized shelves making it easy for you to customize your display the way you want to. Book shelves are already great display pieces and can be stored in any room in your house.

Designate a Room

If your Diecast Model Cars are still in their original packaging and you intend to resell them at a later date than you will need to preserve them appropriately. Instead of taking them out of the boxes, you might consider designing a room or area where you can easily display the toys. For instance, if you have an attic or basement, add a few shelves that can mount to the wall. Place your toy boxes on the shelves for an easy display area.

When displaying your Diecast Model Cars please keep in mind that they must maintain their quality in order to maintain its value. Therefore you should not store your items anywhere that there is intense heat, moisture, or cold. Keep the toys away from younger children who may play with them or open the packages, and more importantly store them out of the reach of your pets. Other than that, get creative in making your collectibles mesh with your living space for everyone to enjoy.

Where Business Ideas Come From

Cars

I was reading the local paper and came across a picture of the cleanest garage I ever saw. In addition to a picture of the garage there was a picture of a gentlemen, in his late 60’s cleaning the cobwebs with an extension pole. I thought to myself I have never seen a garage so clean in my life. The accompanying article was discussing how this individual and another had painted and put cabinets in their garages, and how you could eat off this garage floor. Now we have all seen those storage cabinets for garages, but how many of us ever get them and if we do, don’t we fill them up and then the garage goes back to looking like it did before we got them. Imagine if someone would come to your home, condo or townhouse and clean out, paint and organize that garage for you; and you would tell them how you want it done. I am not talking about those expensive ads we’ve all seen where they can come in and re-do your garage. Not many of us have thousands of dollars to spend on our garages. It got me to thinking that this could be the perfect business for someone who loves to clean and organize. You could network with one of the local home depot places to provide you cabinets, or you could take your re-sale number and purchase them directly from the manufacturer, rather than dealing with a local company. The only negative sometimes with dealing directly with the manufacturer, you might have to purchase larger quantities or they might have minimum order requirements. You could run small classified ads in your local paper, in specialty papers in your area or make up flyers with a before and after picture of what you could do with someone’s garage. You’d meet with the homeowner and discuss where certain items would be placed, inform them of your services: painting and providing cabinets and then re-organizing the garage for them. If it were me I would certainly get half of my fee up front (which would also include the cost of the cabinets). Like the article I read, get your local paper to feature your business. Show them a before and after picture. It would certainly be a great way to get you more business. Remember a picture is worth a thousand words. What should you charge. I really don’t know. However, if I were thinking about starting this business I’d call homeowners and ask them what they would pay. Tell homeowners you are doing a survey and just want to know if they would be interested if someone would paint, and re-organize their garage, and if so, what would it be worth to them. You would also have to find out the cost of the cabinets beforehand so that you could factor this into your cost; in addition to how much paint you would need for the average garage. You would obviously want a paint that is easy to clean. The biggest thing is to decide how much time it would take and what you want to make per hour. If it were me, I would do it on a sliding scale. By this, I mean it would depend on how much work the garage needed. You could also do quarterly, or semi-annual follow-up for webs and washing of the walls and floors and do any re-organizing. I might be way out of line, maybe somebody is already doing it. Again, I don’t mean the redesigning and remodeling companies we’ve all seen, I mean a small or homebased business owner. Anyway, it was just a thought! It gives those of you that think there is no type of business you can run an idea of how some business ideas come about. Think about what you like to do, what your passionate about, and see if you can develop a business around your interests. Copyright 2002 DeFiore Enterprises

Secrets To Keeping Your Car Looking Like New For 10 Years

Automotive

Most personal finance experts would agree that keeping your vehicle for up to 10 years is a good economical decision. The economics of keeping a vehicle that long are overwhelmingly convincing. So why is it so rare to find someone who owns the same car that long? After all, today most cars will keep working long after a couple hundred thousand miles. So, why do people keep buying a new car when there is nothing wrong with the one they have? Peer pressure? Maybe it looks out of date? This might be true, especially when the new edition undergoes major styling changes. Maybe it is because people start worrying about the likelihood of a major mechanical problem.

We have found that if you can keep it looking new through a proven strategy it will be much more difficult to make that new car purchase. So what can be done to slow down the aging process? How can a car be used on a regular basis and not age. There is no one particular activity, but rather several things that contribute to a common goal. The following is a list of ways to keep the appearance of your car looking like new.

1. By far, the number one way to keep your vehicle looking like new is to KEEP IT IN THE GARAGE AT NIGHT. Most people think the damage results from the grueling midday heat and dust that bake the dirt into the paint and plastic, however, the most destructive time is at night, when the cool moisture condensates on the surface of the car. This is the source of the problem. We live in a basin here in Los Angeles which is packed with automobiles moving about all day. The exhaust, pollution and road grime, rise up into the atmosphere during the hot days and are suspended there until the cool sea air moves in and captures the pollution in the moisture that will condensate on the car. That morning dew sitting on the horizontal surfaces of the vehicle is a sulfur /acidy toxic cocktail of all the junk in our air. It eats into the paint, the trim around the doors, yellows headlights and destroys the rubber parts. No test lab can recreate that! The moisture is not horribly bad, but if this process is done every night for 5 to 8 years, it will take its toll on the exterior.

2. Keep the vehicle under an overhang at night. The next best thing to a garage would be to keep the vehicle from getting dew on it at night. Reread the reason in the paragraph above. The next best long term protection is the overhang. (Car covers are helpful when the vehicle will sit at the airport for 2 weeks or in your driveway for a week. As a daily defense, it is a good idea, but with time it is a hassle as well as too dirty to put on the car. )

3. Regular waxing. Regular waxing is every 3 to 4 months or every 5,000 miles. So by the time your vehicle has 20,000 miles on it, it should have 4 coats of wax. Waxing gives the car a micro thin layer of protection from the elements. As the vehicle gets older, the attention to the exterior should increase. Occasionally, the paint should be polished to restore clarity to the surface. Polishing the paint every 1 1/2 years or ever 15,000 miles will increase the life of the wax, and maintain the paint in top condition.

4. Regular washes on the exterior will keep the vehicle free of dust and contaminants. The longer dirt and dust sit on the paint, the more likely it will start to adhere to the surface.

5. Paint protection film by 3M is the best way to keep the paint rock chip free. By applying this film to the bumper and hood, it will defend the original vehicle paint from damage. This film is removable and does not have any long term effect to the paint. Conceivably, this film could be removed in 10 years after installation, and the paint would look like the day it came off the assembly line. Truly the best long term solution for the everyday driver.

6. Window tint. Protect the interior from fading and drying out with a lifetime warranty film. During the day, the vehicles interior is vulnerable to the harmful effects of the suns UV Rays. Window tint blocks out 100% of the ultraviolet rays. It also reduces the internal heat and cuts down on glare. With regular interior detailing and window tint, the interior will look like the day it was installed. Also, window tint improves the comfort of the passenger and drivers.

7. Biannual cleaning of the motor will ensure proper visibility of fluid levels. It can improve preventative maintenance inspection and keeps the motor running cooler. Furthermore, mechanics respect a clean motor and are more likely to clean up after themselves.

8. Periodic removal of small door dings and dents. The cost of keeping your doors “ding” free is really reasonable and the process of Paintless Dent Removal is non invasive. It is impossible to keep a daily driver from eventually getting a door ding, but the good news is that they can be messaged out and restored to its original position. No painting or bondo is necessary and the vehicle maintains its original factory paint.

9. Deep cleaning Detail. Every 1.5 to 2 years the vehicle should get a complete detail. Most people will wait until the vehicle is so bad, something has to be done. For a potted plant, that is the equivalence of waiting until the leaves are turning brown before it gets watered.

10. Achieving a like new vehicle after 10 years will require preemptive or preventive care. Scheduled detailing appointments over a 1 year time period will help to keep the vehicle on track. The paint job cannot remind you it needs waxing. So do not wait until you notice the car getting a little shabby before you act. Lastly, the mechanical part of the vehicle is just as important. We strongly recommend the adherence to all schedule mechanical maintenance.

Police Seized Vehicles – Buy Cars At Discount Price Through Auctions

Cars

Police closed vehicles offer some of the best deals for automobiles on the market. Often, when criminals are brought to justice their assets are located by the city or the state. This means that their homes, boats, cars, trucks, and other valuable belongings are made available to the public. In the priority cases, these police vessels vehicles and other items will be put on the auction block where they will be sold to the highest bidder.

Before you take part in a police enclosed vehicle auction it is important to understand exactly what you are getting into. It is very possible that you will take home police seized vehicles for a mere fraction of their value. In fact, cars, trucks, and SUVs have been known to sell at discounts of up to 90%, and many people have even driven off in a reliably well-conditioned car for only a few hundred dollars.

However, anyone can come to bid, and used car dealers are no strangers to police enclosed vehicle auctions. They can quickly drive up the price of a car, and if you get drawn into a bidding war you can actually end up overpaying for an automobile.

Most auctions for police vessels vehicles provide buyers with a preview period. This is a great chance for you to find what you are looking for and to determine how much you are willing to pay. It is also an opportunity for you gauge the vehicle's condition, so you'll know what you are getting if you do end up placing the highest bid.

What is Paintless Dent Repair?

Cars

Many times, you are simply in disbelief that your vehicle is sporting another dent or ding. It just doesn’t take much to mar the beautiful car’s surface. Anything from an errant rock to an out-of-control shopping buggy can all pose a significant hazard to your car’s exterior. One of the best ways to repair these types of dents is with Paintless Dent Repair. However, there are certain requirements for the types of damage this process will be most effective on.

What Types of Damage Can Be Fixed with PDR?

The most common types of damage that are easily repaired with PDR are those that are in a door panel or fender. The dents do not have creasing or painted removed. They also cannot entail the trim area and need to be a certain distance away from the edge of the part.

What Is the PDR Process?

This process sounds rather simple; however, it takes a great deal of training and experience to get it right. The first step in the process is to gain access to the area behind the damage. This involves removing the inside door panel or perhaps removing a tire for access to a wheel well. Then, with the use of several specialized tools, the metal is massaged from behind. Once complete, there is no sign of the repair. It’s also much less expensive than a traditional repair in a typical body shop. The entire time to do the repair only takes about one to two hours. If you’ve ever had your vehicle in a body shop, you know that it can days for your car to get fixed. This not only is inconvenient, you could not have access to your vehicle for days.

Let the Company Come to You

Almost all of the companies that offer this type of service offer mobile service as well. They will come to your location, such as your work or home and take care of the car. It’s a very convenient way to get your car looking fantastic again. This is also a great idea for a leased or rented vehicle, too.

In Closing

The key to this process is choosing someone who has the training and experience to effect the repair properly. If not, you could end up with more damage than before and it could be very expensive to fix! For the best results, only use a PDR company that is well established, insured, and bonded.

Effect of Driver’s Age on Insurance Rates of Personal and Commercial Auto Insurance Policies

Cars

The insurance business world is one of the very few places where age can be used to distinguish between citizens based on their age. Insurers assess different charges for different people depending on their age. If you are a 16 year person and you feel that you are going to be getting a healthier premium than your 22 year old buddy because you are better committed than him or her then you are making a wrong analysis.

Insurers tabulate their insurance charges using ‘brackets’ or categories of consumers grouped together with certain common elements. These classes could differ based on a number of factors like age, marital status, gender, area, consumer credit rating etc. This essay is partial in its extent to the age element.

Young Operators Groups:

Below Age 18: This is the age category where insurance price is the at record high. People in this age group pay as much as 175% to 225% more than mature operators. Since no one below age 18 will get a CDL, any operator below the age of 18 driving a motor vehicle that has business coverage may be risking declination of coverage in the event of an insurance claim.

Age 18 Years to 20 Years: Individuals are still classified as young drivers, and they still have to pay greater prices than mature drivers, though their premiums are much less than the previous bracket. At age 18 individuals can possess their CDL. Most insurers that may consider them will not even look at there insurance submission for policies that require interstate setup coverage. Companies that allow them to be on a business policy will restrict their insurance coverage to intrastate activities.

Age 21 to 24: This is the last bracket in the classification of youthful drivers. Insurance premiums for private insurance begin to stabilize with most insurance companies, when compared with prices served to mature operators. Age 21 years is where many commercial insurance companies start to accept commercial auto insurance applicants with interstate bearing. All companies will put in special price extra charge for commercial operators under age 21 years, and some insurance companies may require a specific period of expertise like 12 to 24 months of experience to look into them for insurance coverage.

Mature Operators:

Age 25 years to 69 years: A large number of insurance companies impose very similar prices for this age category, although a small number of insurance carriers begin to charge small build up in their premiums beyond age 60 years. Age does not seem to be important for this class.

Old Drivers:

Over Age 70 Years: Unfortunately the insurance place is the once where the status of discounting senior citizens work in reverse. Senior citizens are surcharged in auto insurance. There are important studies made by insurance companies and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration- NHTSA www.nhtsa.gov that suggest that individuals over age 70 years begin to lead to more traffic accidents. For that reason, insurance companies take certain measures to implement the right rate with the appropriate medical reports from them. Most business polices do not cover operators above age 71 or 72 years. On the individual insurance level, almost all companies stop selling newer polices for customers beyond 76 years of age, and other companies make the insurance price very excluding.

What else can be done to decrease the influence of age on premiums? There is not much that old and young drivers can do. Young operators and older operators are leading to more highway accidents, relatively speaking, and they must simply pay the price for that. Many insurance carriers accept good student discounts for younger student operators, and other companies may permit occasional operator status on their policy. For older drivers, making sure that you have the correct medical record that shows the physical and mental functionality of the old person to drive the car is wanted to give to the insurance representative. The absence of that note to be provided in timely manner may end in ceasing the policy which might be complex to replace with another company afterwards.

Benefits of Magnaflow Mufflers

Automotive

Muffler, which is commonly called silencer, is mainly a device which reduces the amount of noise made by a machine. It is primarily a part of the internal combustion engines. In fact the engine exhaust blows out through the muffler, thereby reducing the noise made by the combustion engine.

This particular device is installed along the exhaust pipe, as a part of the exhaust system of an internal combustion engine of a machine; And helps in reducing the exhaust noise. A muffler includes a resonating chamber which is specifically created to cause destructive interference, which helps the opposite sound waves to cancel out each other. The effects are mainly generated due to restriction, rather than due to cancellation.

There are many types of mufflers available in the auto industry. One of the most popular mufflers is certainly magnaflow muffler. Magnaflow muffler is usually a straight wide open muffler, with very much smooth and deep tones. This particular muffler is typically developed, to be one of the best products in the line of performance mufflers. Magnaflow muffler strongly outdoes the OEM chamber style mufflers to an amount of 16%. The main benefits of this particular muffler are that it reduces engine heat and backpressure, and also improves the exhaust system of the combustion engine, at the same time. Magnaflow muffler also minimizes the effects of power robbing, and also restores torque and the horsepower of the engine, to a great extent.

It is not very difficult to install magnaflow muffler in your vehicle. All you need to do is connect the muffler to the connecting pipe. It would be easier to do, if you slip the exhaust hangers on the muffler, and into the hanging rubber, brushing first, then gently swing the rear section up, and just fix it to the connecting pipe. Then, simply tighten down the clamp provided with the muffler. After all is done, and then just check if all the fittings are tight enough, and if the tip of the muffler exits the bumper, straight ahead. All that is left to do now is to re-install the skid plate or the heat shield to your vehicle.

A Magnaflow muffler is available in a variety of styles and sizes, which provides it with the flexibility, to be applied with endless options. These mufflers are made out of stainless steel, and they provide high performance; And can be a style statement for your vehicle. The prices generally range from $ 119.94 to $ 125.94. With comparisons to other mufflers available in the market, magnaflow muffler can certainly be termed as one of the best performance mufflers.

How Do You Make A YouTube Video?

Cars

My article today is about You Tube Videos, how to make them, why to make them and what to talk about in them!

Within the online business I do, making videos is one of the forms of marketing we learn to do as it gives a personal touch and means the people viewing the videos get to know you. You know how you just feel an affinity or connection with some people, so by making videos you’ll get a following of like minded people who are interested in what you have to say.

Vlogging

A word we use is a ‘Vlog’ which means video blog. So instead of or as well as writing a blog post/article, you can make a video. Some of us aren’t keen on writing, so a vlog could be a better alternative because you just say what you want instead of typing/writing it.

What is on YouTube?

Since having baby no. 2 we decided to get our 2 & 9 month old toddler a kids tablet! He loves playing with toys such as trains, cars & dinosaurs but we thought sometimes there are times when you need your crazy toddler to sit still for a while!

We downloaded YouTube Kids on to his tablet so he could watch programmes like Paw Patrol, Thomas The Tank Engine & Andy’s Dinosaur Adventures and I’ve discovered that people upload literally all sorts on to YouTube! He managed to come across random people, both adults and children, playing with plastic Paw Patrol characters and Thomas & Friends trains etc! The people shooting the videos would be narrating as they played and they’d be from all around the world, some speaking in languages other than English too. My toddler Tommy actually prefers those type of videos to the real episodes, even if he can’t understand the language!

So this made me realise that there is something for everyone! You may think who’d be interested in what I have to say, but the above proves that you will create content that will be interesting to someone!

What Do I Write About?

Have a think about what you’re interested in and how it could be of help or use to other people. You may think you don’t have any experience or knowledge that people could learn from, but you are unique and nobody else has your thoughts or ideas. Don’t try too hard or just write about what you think other people want, just make your videos (and/or blogs) from the heart and give your take on things. People will appreciate you for being real and just being yourself.

Take a look on YouTube at Gary Vee who is a great video blogger and has made himself a household name, all by being consistent and his true self.

Here’s just a few examples of what you could vlog about:

Reviews (wine, destinations, food, electrical items, pushchairs and so on)

Inspirational/Motivational quotes

Personal issues and how to resolve them

Exercise & health tips

Recipes & how to cook

Languages & teaching phrases/words

How to fix things such as building units, unblocking a sink etc

Sports techniques such as football skills, fishing tips and so on

These are just a few ideas, literally the world is your oyster and you can talk about anything and everything! Just make sure it’s relevant to you so that your passion and experience/knowledge show through. You are an expert at being you and people trust experts.

To sign up to YouTube, which is owned by Google, just use or set up your gmail account. You don’t need a technical video camera, just your smart phone will suffice. We take photos just like that with our phone, so why not try out a video instead?!

So my niche is about being a work from home mum and I do love happy inspirational quotes and self development books! My videos and blogs are generally about these two topics because I feel passionate about them and feel I can naturally and easily talk about them.
